Next upgrade: February 17 2007 - Silver Server

New Server Platform & Server Upgrades

First and foremost, our previous routine for upgrading servers is going to change. Instead of replacing old servers with new ones, we will be adding new servers and moving customers to the new servers. For instance, all customers on that cpanel09b will be placed on the new cpanel58, and then cpanel09b will be removed entirely.

This will, of course, change the IP addresses for your domains, etc. However, you will only have to make changes yourself if you have entered any nameserver IPs at your domain's registrar. If you have not entered any IPs and have just chosen to use our nameservers then you will not need to change anything.

The hardware on our new servers has been greatly improved to better meet current and future demands:

Dual Xeon Processors (same as before)
Minimum of 2GB RAM (Previously 1GB)
10k RPM Ultra320 SCSI hard drives (Previously IDE or SATA)

The key improvement is the hard drives as we will now be able to move away from the 3ware IDE/SATA RAID controllers that have been giving us a lot of trouble lately and are simply not performing as needed.

Silver Server - Feb 17 2007
Instead of being on cpanel09b, users will now be on cpanel58.

Silver Server: cpanel58.gzo.com - 75.126.144.66
DNS #1: ns1.xenarts.com - 75.126.144.66
DNS #2: ns2.xenarts.com - 75.126.145.176

You will not have to change any settings at your registrar if you are using
| NameServer1: ns1.xenarts.com
| NameServer2: ns2.xenarts.com

-----
Generally speaking be advised that DURING the change over, any changes you make to your site on cpanel09b will need to be made again on the new server cpanel58.

You might want to set up forwarder in tour cPanel to forward any email to a free email (yahoo, gmail, snet, etc), during the transfer - as there will be a time when the propagation of the new IP will be pointing to either server during the process.
-----
Beginning on February 17th, we also advise all users to disable anything involving MySQL updates (order forms, forums, CMS, etc.) until it is running on the new servers. This will avoid updates being lost during the transfer and ending up with a database that is a few hours old. If this is not an option, you can leave everything active, cpanel09b will still be online for a few days following the upgrade. But you will be responsible for transferring any database updates that might be needed.
-----
E-Mail clients be aware that the move process should take from 24 to 36 hours. The transfer of files to the new server should be approximately 2 hours. The new IP propagation should be approximately 24 hours. That means that email will be being received at the old server up until the new IP information has time to make it's way around the internet routers and some email might go to the old server and not be transfered to the new server (24 to 36 hours).
We will check the old server after propagation (it will be up for a few days) to see if any legitimate email arrived after transfer and try to forward it.

2:00 pm Sat.
We've just started transfering accounts from cpanel09b to cpanel58 and I will update this thread throughout the process.
5:00 pm Sat.
Accounts are still being transfered. We should have this upgrade completed by sometime tomorrow afternoon.
1:00 pm Sun.
The transfers are coming along quite well. We still hope to have this completed by sometime this afternoon or early this evening.
6:30 pm Sun
All accounts have now been transfered. We will be changing the DNS very soon. Everyone should check that all you have all of your email accessed from cpanel09b
9:00 am Mon
All services are functioning on the new server. We now have RoundCube app. available for your webmail access.

HTTP on cpanel09b will be disabled on Friday (2/23/06)
Check to make sure everything is functioning correctly on your servers - contact support with any issues.

All servers now have to PHP 4.4.4 and PHP 5.2.1. running on them.

PHP4 is still running with phpsuexec and will run by default.
PHP5 runs as CGI on all .php5 files.
Example:
http://cpanel58.gzo.com/phpinfo.php5

You can make standard .php and other files executable by PHP5 instead of PHP4 by adding the following line in a .htaccess file:
Code:
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php .php4 .php3 .phtml

Additionally, PHP5 will read the same php.ini files that you have setup for PHP4. Please submit a trouble ticket if you have any questions.
